Prairie Point Pizazz

I have worked up a little demo to show you 2 new techniques that might be useful for some of your projects. First, an easier way to insert a pillow into a pillow cover that has an overlapping back. Then, a tool that helps make crisp little prairie points.

The product info:
the pillow pattern that started this is 'Pillow Trio' by Atkinson Designs
the pillow that I made is Prairie Point Pillow by Seams & Dreams
the pressing tool is the Prairie Pointer by Susan Cleveland at Pieces Be With You
Mary Ellen's Best Press is available in several scents and sizes. We use it for all our sewing projects.

New For You!

In the past few days we have received several new fabric groups, and you will surely find something that is your new fave fabric on our shelves. Pictured above are the Riley Blake fabrics named "Happier", and that is what you will be when you see the whole group and feel the fine quality. I picture a darling little baby quilt featuring the large tree print with all the smaller coordinates.
Or a very cool messenger bag?
Or a new summer pillowcase for someone special?

And if that's not enough to get you interested, how about some added incentive? Debbie and Laurel are off lolly-gagging somewhere so while they are away, we declare it time for a sale! Here's the deal:

20 % off all books and patterns

Every Barn Tells A Story

We have a unique opportunity for you to purchase an autographed book by local authors, Ann Zemke and Diane Entrikin. They have created a wonderful book that is not only chock full of quilt patterns, but will look fine on your coffee table.

The stories and pictures of these "barn quilts" reveal some special pieces of history of southern Minnesota and parts of Iowa. If you grew up on a farm, like me, you really should have this book. The book retails for $27.95, stop in or call for your own copy!

Hot News!

The new spring 2011 Better Homes & Gardens Quilt Sampler magazine is in the shop! This is one of those quilting magazines that I always look forward to. Especially because it brings back good memories of 2001, the year that Bear Patch was included in the Top Ten in the country!

I know that we have so many requests for this magazine, so we want you to know that it is now available. There are 10 new shops described and displayed for you. I like to use these magazines to help plan where I would like to stop on road trips and vacations. This time, I am excited to see Yellow Creek Quilt Designs included because I have just completed a quilt that they have designed and it is shown in one of the magazine photos! It is the quilt shown below draped over a display on the right. And it is offered as a class starting later this month right here in White Bear Lake. It would be fun to have you join us!
We always have to have a quick look at the list of shops to see if any other great Minnesota shops have been included, and once again, we are represented. This time it is Gathering Friends in Bird Island. Congrats to them! The picture below shows a bit of the interior of the old bank building that they occupy. They have done a great job of preserving a bit of history.

If you are needing the magazine and can't get your hands on a copy, just give us a call and it will be in the mail and in your hands before you know it!
